Theory of Interior Design explores the fundamental concepts, principles, and ideas that inform the practice of interior design. Students examine how design decisions influence the way spaces are planned, perceived, and experienced, developing a deeper understanding of the relationship between aesthetics, function, context, and human needs.
Through the study of key design theories and their practical applications, students learn to analyze and evaluate interior spaces with a more critical and informed perspective. The course encourages them to question existing approaches, consider different viewpoints, and understand the reasoning behind design choices rather than relying solely on visual appeal or personal preference.
By establishing a strong theoretical foundation, the course prepares students to approach design challenges with greater intention, develop well-grounded concepts, and create interior solutions that are thoughtful, purposeful, and responsive to the people who inhabit them.
