Introduction to Fashion Construction is the introductory workshop that teaches students the fundamental processes behind the creation of garments. It teaches students the basics of sewing by familiarising them with the sewing machine, basic sewing exercise, the process of taking correct body measurements and translating them to drafted patterns.

They will learn how to thread and operate a single stitch sewing machine and edging machine. They will be given sewing exercises to familiarize their skills in using the sewing machine. Seam finishes and fasteners will be part of the lesson.

Pattern making, fabric cutting, sewing and finishing of a basic torso blouse and pencil skirt will be the lessons for the last six sessions. This is a hands-on workshop where students are given the opportunity to work side-by-side with an instructor, who in turn, can provide feedback on every student’s output.
