
Design Discovery offers high school students a curated pre-college experience designed for aspiring interior designers, creatives, and design enthusiasts. This seven-session immersive program explores the creative and technical aspects of interior design, providing hands-on experience and learning opportunities from industry professionals.
From concept development and spatial planning to material selection and furniture styling. They’ll bring their ideas to life by creating a room-scale model, gaining practical experience in turning vision into reality.
Whether you dream of designing spaces or launching your own studio, Design Discovery provides the essential skills, industry insights, and confidence to take your next step in interior design.

COURSE OUTLINE:
Session 1: Design 101 - Intro to Interior Design & Creative Spaces
Interior design goes beyond aesthetics—it shapes how we live and interact with spaces. In this session, you’ll discover what interior designers do and how thoughtful design enhances daily life.
Fun Icebreaker Activity: Find Your Design Style!
Session 2: The Art of Space - Design Principles & Elements
Great design is more than just decoration—it creates harmony and function within a space. Participants will explore the fundamentals of interior design, including balance, contrast, proportion, and flow while learning how furniture arrangement enhances aesthetics and functionality to create well-designed spaces.
Interactive Activity: Quick Space Planning Exercise
Session 3: Colors, Textures & Materials - Bringing Designs to Life
Color, texture, and materials play a vital role in shaping the mood and character of a space. In this session, you’ll discover how color influences perception and emotion while exploring various materials and finishes used in interior design to create depth, contrast, and visual harmony.
Hands-on Activity: Color & Material Board
Session 4: Behind the Scenes: Interior Design Studio & Showroom Experience
Step into professional interior design with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of a designer’s studio. Explore the creative process firsthand, visit a curated furniture showroom to see inspiring room vignettes and discover how design elements come together in real spaces.
Design Observation Challenge: Spot the Design Elements!
Session 5: Design in Action - Create Your Own Dream Space
In this session, you’ll begin working on your personal room-scale model project, bringing your vision into reality. With guidance from a licensed interior designer, you’ll sketch, assemble, and refine your design while developing essential skills in conceptualization and spatial planning.
Session 6: The Final Project – Personal Room-Scale Model
This session is all about finalizing and perfecting their scale models. Students will add finishing touches to their designs and prepare to present their creative process.
A collaborative critique session will encourage constructive feedback and help them refine their work.
Session 7: Design Lab Showcase
Celebrate your creative journey at the Design Lab Showcase! A gallery-style presentation open to family, friends, and members of the design community. Participants will present their final designs, demonstrating their creative growth and understanding of interior design principles.
The event will conclude with a Certificate of Completion ceremony, recognizing their growth and dedication throughout the program.
