This one-semester Certificate Program in Fashion Design and Construction will provide students with a comprehensive foundation in the art of design conceptualization via the SoFA Method and technical skills in clothing construction. From critical design thinking, to rendering designs and bringing them to life, this certificate program will prepare students for more advanced studies in the field of Fashion Design.

Course Outline:
Design Studio 1: Creative Problem Solving
This course will introduce the SoFA Method design process that will focus on a minor and major project. Different ways of generating ideas that are focused on a specific theme will ultimately lead the student to an original design output.
Basic Illustration
This course is a foundational course that will introduce students to the fundamentals of fashion illustration, from the body, its features and how a garment moves and falls on a fashion figure.
Pattern Making and Sewing 1
This course will guide students in using the sewing machine as well as learning basic sewing and construction techniques. They will learn how to develop basic blocks based on their own measurements and transfer these to flat patterns.
