The Certificate Program in Accessories Design is a one-semester course that introduces students to the creative and technical process of designing footwear and handbags. Students will learn the fundamentals of concept development, material selection, and basic construction. Through hands-on projects, they’ll explore the art of shoe and bag design, developing an eye for style, structure, and functionality.

Course Outline:
DESIGN STUDIO 1: INTRODUCTION TO FASHION DESIGN
This course introduces the SoFA Method design process, a signature creative approach that encourages students to think critically, explore deeply, and design with intention. Through guided minor and major projects, students will learn how to generate ideas from a focused theme, develop their concepts through research and experimentation, and translate them into original design outputs. The SoFA Method emphasizes creativity grounded in process helping students build confidence in their own design voice while understanding the discipline behind great design.
BAG DESIGN & SHOE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
This course is structured into nine (9) focused sessions, each designed to build a strong foundation in design and construction. Students will learn essential techniques from sketching and pattern development to basic assembly and finishing methods, allowing them to translate creative ideas into tangible designs. Through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, the course aims to strengthen both technical proficiency and design confidence, preparing students for more advanced creative projects.
FASHION BRANDING
This course explores what it takes to build a strong and lasting brand in today’s fast-changing digital landscape. While anyone can start a fashion business online, creating a brand that endures requires strategy, clarity, and creativity. This course provides a structured framework for developing a brand that can adapt to trends and disruptions while staying true to its identity. Students will learn how to connect their business goals with their brand story, values, and customer experience. By the end of the course, they’ll gain the confidence to build, manage, and grow a fashion brand that stands out and thrives in a competitive market.
