OUTLINE
Design Studio 1
This course serves as the creative core of the certificate program, guiding students through SoFA Method, our signature design process. Students will work on both a minor and a major project, learning how to generate and develop design concepts from inspiration to execution. With an emphasis on creative freedom, students are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of materials, even without prior garment construction experience. The course focuses on building creative problem-solving strategies to enhance design thinking and originality.
Visual Techniques
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of art and design, covering the elements and principles that shape effective visual communication. Through step-by-step instruction, demonstrations, and guided exercises, students will explore various media and techniques to develop their visual expression. The course builds a strong foundation for illustration, concept development, and presentation skills essential in the fashion design process.
Textile Technology
This course is an essential component of fashion design, offers an in-depth introduction to textiles - their history, construction, and properties. Students will learn how to properly identify and select fabrics based on their characteristics and performance. This knowledge equips students with the technical understanding necessary for informed design decisions, garment planning, and product development.
