Model Making for Interior Design 

This course will help students learn and to build a model of a simple interior space using basic techniques and tools, shaping ideas into 3D forms. The course designed to help all those wishing to learn more about making scale set models, from architects, interior designers, stop-motion animators, artists, or those pursuing a hobby. Classes will be taught mainly using the English language

This course runs for 1 semester or approximately 4 to 5 months.

Week 1: Introduction and Importance of Model Making in Interior Design

Week 2: Translating Personal influences for Design Process in Model Making

Week 3: Establishing Design Direction for Models

Week 4-5: Construction Techniques Using Sheet Materials

Week 6-7: Techniques for Constructing Simple and Complex Shapes

Week 8: Sketching Furniture Prototyping and Construction

Week 9: Midterms Presentation

Week 10-11: Creating Simple and Complex Textures and Surfaces

Week 12: Finishing Surfaces for Mockup Project

Week 13: Staging & Photography

Week 14-15: Peer Review 

Week 16: Final Touches

Week 17-18: Final Presentations

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Personal Desktop or Laptop and Accessories
  • Foam Core
  • Bristol board
  • Clear Sheet plastics Clear acetate
  • Corrugated cardboard (optional)
  • Chipboard (optional)
  • Scissors
  •  X-Acto knife (precision knife) and/or Box cutter
  • Adhesives (Hot glue, white glue, etc.)
  • Metal ruler
  • Cutting mat
  • Architect’s scale

OUTCOME:

Students will demonstrate the ability to apply basic model-making techniques specifically for interior furniture and spaces. They will also exhibit competencies in integrating model-making into their design process to enhance creativity and precision.
