Design Studio 1: Introduction to Fashion Design introduces students to the fundamentals of fashion design through the SoFA Method, our distinct approach to design education that emphasizes exploration, experimentation, and learning through making. Students learn how to develop fashion concepts from initial inspiration to execution, working on both a minor and a major project that encourage them to explore ideas and discover their own creative direction.

With creative freedom at the heart of the studio, students are encouraged to challenge conventions, experiment with different materials, and explore ways to express ideas through design, even without prior garment construction experience. Along the way, they develop creative problem-solving skills, strengthen their design thinking, and learn to make intentional decisions as they begin translating their ideas into fashion concepts and tangible outcomes.
