Fashion Design Short Courses

Expanding one's design capability is a continuous process. SoFA Design Institute recognizes the need for enthusiasts, college graduates and students, and even current professionals, to gain a more comprehensive grasp of Fashion Design.

The following are 18-session programs that touch on the varied disciplines with two courses of study. Each class lasts for 3 hours and is scheduled once a week and runs for 18 sessions. Tuition is approximately PhP19,140 - P24,090.

These programs follow a semestral calendar from June to October, or November to March.

 


Design Studio 1: Creative Problem Solving

Schedule: Tuesday  |  3:00 - 6:00PM

Course Description:

The course will be divided into 2 parts where each part will consist of a minor project and a major project.  These will be accomplished by using different ways of generating ideas combined with some themes and concepts to come up with original designs.  They will not be limited with their inexperience in putting garments together and should be liberated by using a multitude of materials instead.

 

Fashion Merchandising & Buying

Schedule: Friday  |  12:00NN - 3:00PM

Course Description:

This course focuses in all activities in the Merchandising Cycle, required to have the right fashion merchandise available in the proper quantities and place, at the right time, price, and quality, to meet customer satisfaction at a profit. It also introduces concepts by which retailers create special store-brand merchandise for targeted customer segments. This course introduces basic concepts, principles and techniques used by retail buyers as they complete their day-to-day duties and responsibilities. A step-by-step approach is presented for buying tasks that give participants the opportunity to develop buying skills with a marketing orientation.


Pattern Making and Sewing 1

Course Description:

Students will learn how to develop basic blocks based on given measurements or their own.  They will learn how to transfer measurements to flat patterns.  They will develop basic skills in the usage of the sewing machine to gain confidence in the basic sewing and construction techniques.

 

Textile Technology

Course Description:

Textile Technology focuses on the history, construction and properties of different textiles, while providing an understanding of how textiles are created.

The course also will help students develop an understanding of the use of textiles within contemporary fashion.

 

History of Design

Course Description:

This course is designed to provide students with a keen understanding of the various clothing and fashion styles throughout history, summarizing the way people have dressed from ancient to modern times.

 

Fashion Trends

Schedule: Wednesday  |  3:00 - 6:00PM

Course Description:

This course aims to teach the basic skills in spotting and forecasting trends.  It will tackle the various trends throughout fashion history and the social factors that helped shape it.  This course also involves the study of emerging trends particularly in fashion, culture and lifestyle.  It seeks to develop the student’s keen eye and astute mind in order to be a good observer of current and upcoming trends.

 

Fashion Product Development

Schedule: Saturday  |  8:00 - 11:00AM

Course Description:

The process of product development, from research to production to distribution is studied. Students will work on market and trend research and plan a design and marketing project developing a new product range for a specific market.

 

Makeup Techniques

Schedule: Wednesday  |  6:00 - 9:00PM

Course Description:

The course is focused on the fundamentals of make-up application: from the theories to understanding how make-up products and tools work, as well as the aspects of make-up applications: how to create make-up for print, live shows, TV and film formats.

 

Fashion Styling 

Schedule: Thursday  |  6:00 - 9:00PM

Course Description:

The basic course consists of lectures following the course outline in the first half and field activities on the remaining half. The course covers establishing a students’ fashion philosophy and discussing theories and facts associated with fashion styling. Mood board creation to implementation of projects will also be vital parts to sharpen the students’ skills in styling. Familiarization trips include mannequin styling and styling according to specific markets. Specialists in Fashion styling, brand marketing and TV/movie styling are also invited to broaden the students’ perspective of the industry. Course finals include creation of a magazine editorial, which most practicing fashion stylists specialize in.
