Certificate in Accessories Design & Construction (Bag & Shoe)

Accessory design was once considered the “kid sister” of fashion. In the meantime, the design of shoes, bags, jewelry, and other accessories has grown into an important field onto itself.   SoFA Design institute has joined a global movement recognizing the significance of accessory design with a program that promotes the craft-stressing intellectual rigor, artistic expression, and technical skill. 


Certificate in Bag Design & Construction

Duration: March 5 - July 14 


This 1-semester program will provide students a concise overview of how bags are designed and created. This course will focus on the four major areas of how bags are made from conceptualizing the design to the constructing the finished product. Students will see how the design process unfolds in relation to technology through support classes such as Bag Construction, and Materials and Resources. The business side of it will also be discussed in another class.

Certificate in Shoe Design & Construction

Duration: March 5 - July 14 


Within one semester, this course will provide students a comprehensive overview of designing and constructing shoes. Design conceptualization and the execution of the finished product are two of the major focuses of this course. Students will see how the design process is developed in relation to technology through classes such as Shoe Design Studio, and Materials and Resources. Lectures on the business side will also be included.


Bag Design Studio

Students will create a unique accessory collection based on conceptual frameworks. They will create two minor and two major collections within this class.

Shoe Design Studio

Using conceptual frameworks, students will develop a distinctive shoe collection in this class. Two minor collections and two major collections will be created.
Schedule: March 7 - July 4 | Wednesdays | 6:00-9:00PM

Bag Construction

Introducing students to bag construction, this class includes topics on pattern making, sewing, finishing, using local materials. Visits to small and large-scale factories may be included.
Schedule: March 5 - July 2 | Mondays | 6:00-9:00PM

Shoe Construction

This class will provide an introduction to shoe construction and pattern making. Techniques on sewing, finishing, and incorporating local resources will be discussed. Trips to shoe workshops may be included.
Schedule: March 8 - July 12 | Thursdays | 6:00-9:00PM

Materials & Resources

Students will be introduced to the materials and textiles used for shoes and bag. This class will also encourage students to search for new resources that can elevate their design into a unique and creative solution.

Marketing & Promotions for Accessories and Brands

This class will help students create brand identity, marketing concepts and product promotions. Both local and global markets will be discussed.
